Vitaly has a Master of Science in electronics and microelectronics from St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in the physics of semiconductors from the A.F. Ioffe Physical Technical Institute. He has written articles in international scientific journals, and has been awarded for his research.

Markku is an active contributor to Finnish as well as international IP organizations in order to develop and promote the Finnish patent expertise and the entire IP field. Markku is currently a member of the Finnish Industrial Property Group, organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. He is also a member of the Standing Advisory Committee before the European Patent Office (SACEPO).

In addition to the time spent in Munich, Tomi also completed the Certificate on Patent Litigation in Europe at the Université Strasbourg III for the right to represent a client at the Unified Patent Court. In 2010, Tomi moved to an international patent attorney company and returned back to Finland in 2014.
